Dakenna makes the list again! Honored by Jacksonville Business Journal as 4th fastest growing private company in NE Florida!

With high-profile contracts like Moe’s Southwest Grill and Jimmy Johns sandwiches, Dakenna Development Inc. has already made a name for itself as a major construction provider for restaurants and retail centers.

Demand for the latter, however, has driven its growth the most in the past year, according to Morris Adkins, who co-founded Dakenna in 2009. Adkins attributes the company’s success to word-of-mouth and loyalty to its customers. “Most of the growth has been our clients’ natural progression. Many are starting to build more retail centers and invest more,” Adkins said.

Dakenna has landed multiple contracts to build shopping centers, including an 8,000-square-foot building in Miami and a 15,000-square-foot building in Georgia. The company has also started work on a shopping center in Palatka.

Dakenna has been able to overcome soaring prices for construction labor by building relationships with several contractors and subcontractors. “We have multiple subcontractors in each trade, so if one subcontractor is busy, we have others we can work with,” Adkins said. He sees the company growing at a slower rate over the next few years, while maintaining the quality its clients have grown to expect.

“We want to solidify our position in the Northeast Florida markets and build a company that can stand the test of time,” Adkins said. “Our concern is continuing to provide our clients with the service and the product and quality that we’ve been able to provide in the past.”
