The Flame Broiler, a restaurant chain with more than 75 locations in California and Arizona, is coming to Jacksonville.

The restaurant — whose mission is to offer customers a healthy dining choice — plans a location at 9822 Tapestry Park Circle, #103, near III Forks, Jimmy Johns Gourmet Subs, Lime Leaf Thai Restaurant and the soon-to-open Corner Bistro & Wine Bar.

According to chain's website, the Jacksonville location will be the first on the East Coast and the first east of Arizona.

Flame Broiler, founded in Fullerton, Calif. by Young and Sarah Lee in 1995, offers a small menu of bowls and plates featuring flame-broiled chicken, beef and ribs served over steamed rice, vegetables or both.

According to menus posted outside the restaurant, bowls range from $4.89 (Veggie) to $5.99 (The Works — chicken, beef, rice and vegetables). Plates, which include salad and fruit, include the Chicken Plate ($7.39) Beef Plate ($7.69), Rib Plate ($8.29) and more.  A banner in the restaurant's window promises meals containing 2.5 to 5 grams of fat and 235 to 653 calories among the bowls menu.  Building permits were issued last week to West Comes East Inc., owner and operator of the planned location.
